Nizar, Mirzan Mahathir appointed director on San Miguel

After 308, UMNO members have acted like a real champion of Islam in Selangor when they criticise Pakatan Rakyat for beer issues...Let's listen what UMNO have to say when one of their member become a director in a food and beverage company mainly related to "alcoholic " products

Mirzan Mahathir appointed director on San Miguel Corp board

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — Mirzan Mahathir, the eldest son of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was recently appointed to the board of San Miguel Corp, the biggest food and beverage conglomerate in the Philippines and the owner of San Miguel Brewery Inc.

San Miguel Corp told the Philippines stock exchange last week about Mirzan’s appointment which is to represent the interests of Q-Tech Alliance Holdings Inc on the board.

Q-Tech, a Manila-based investment company in which Mirzan has a stake in, recently acquired a 19.9 per cent share in San Miguel Corp for 39.61 billion pesos (RM2.9 billion).

It bought the stake from Japan’s Kirin Holdings, which used the funds to help finance the acquisition of a 43 per cent stake in San Miguel Brewery Inc.

With this latest corporate exercise, San Miguel Corp still maintains a 51 per cent stake in San Miguel Brewery Inc.

San Miguel Brewery controls 95 per cent of the Philippine beer market. The company has made San Miguel Beer for more than a century. The beer is brewed in the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, and is sold in 60 markets worldwide, according to the company’s Web site.

San Miguel Corp has been selling its food and beverage assets since 2007 to expand into the mining, infrastructure and property industries.

Mirzan’s involvement in the deal, while a sound investment decision, has raised some eyebrows among Malaysia’s conservative Muslim community.

Since news of Q-Tech’s acquisition of San Miguel Corp shares began circulating here, a number of news blogs have used it to attack Dr Mahathir’s Muslim credentials.

Mirzan’s corporate forays have not been without controversy.

He once controlled Konsortium Perkapalan Bhd when Dr Mahathir was prime minister, but was forced to sell its shipping assets to Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC), in what critics said then was a bailout.

Bolehland ranking is all time low.......

Stock Photo of Economic Crisis Recession 3D Graphic Royalty Free

While Najib and Muhyddin Yassin seem preoccupying with extraneous issues i.e. from one by election to another by election, busy in power grabbing from Perak state and now Selangor state, they have totally ignorant about the country's competitiveness. According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010 released today, Malaysia's competitiveness has dropped further from 17th to 43rd position.

Security which was of particular concern in Malaysia with its ranking dropped 25 levels to 85th. According to the business community, the potential of terrorism (ranked 97th) and crime (ranked 95th) both imposed significant business costs. Can you imagine that our IGP 's contract still can be extended when our crime ranking has tumbled to all time low?

What does these statistic tell us? While our neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Indonesia , Vietnam and Thailand have move forward (May be in Utusan Malaysia or NST tomorrow, Nazri will tell you that we are still better than Myanmar and please do not compare with Singapore as Singapore is not a country) and become foreign investors' favourite destination, we have no way to catch up with them if current administration still busy politicking.

The sad thing is that our UMNO warlord has not waked up......even after 308!!!!!!!!!!!

Read below for Bernama's report.....

SINGAPORE, Sept 8 — Malaysia’s global competitiveness ranking dropped three positions to 24, according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report for 2009-2010 released today.

The drop essentially was the result of a much poorer assessment of its institutional framework, said the report, which was released ahead of WEF’s annual meeting of the New Champions 2009 in Dalian, China.

The report said every indicator in the area had been exhibiting a downward trend since 2007, causing Malaysia to tumble from 17th to 43rd position in this dimension in just two years.

Switzerland topped the overall ranking of 133 economies, with the US fell one place to second position, and Asia continued to feature prominently with Singapore at third and Japan at eighth, and Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan all in the top 20.

The report also said security was of particular concern in Malaysia with its ranking dropped 25 levels to 85th.

According to the business community, the potential of terrorism (ranked 97th) and crime (ranked 95th) both imposed significant business costs.

Also of concern was the budget deficit, which increased in 2008, amounting to almost five percent of Malaysia’s gross domestic product, it said.

However, Malaysia scored high in most other dimensions particularly in those factors at the top end of the value chain, namely business sophistication (ranked 24th) and innovation (also ranked 24th).

The report said expectations were high for Malaysia that averaged an impressive seven percent growth per year between 1990 and 2000 and a healthy five per cent since then.

Mirroring this economic success, Malaysia had featured prominently in the competitiveness rankings ever since its first inclusion in 1994, it said.

“Indeed, it remains the most competitive Stage 2 (efficiency-driven) Country,” it said.

It pointed that in order to maintain its competitive edge, Malaysia now needed to prepare its conversion into a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.

“Improving both the quantity and quality of higher education (ranked 41st) and boosting technological readiness (ranked 37th), particularly information and communication technology penetration, would serve this effort well,” it said. — Bernama

PAS 3 UMNO 0..........

Another interesting news appeared in The Malaysian Insider today.....

Mustafa Ali menang saman

Keris Hishammudin, you thought Rakyat are idiot?

File:Hisham Keris.jpeg

Again and again , rakyat really piss off with the attitude of Big mouth Hishammudin Hussein who clearly thinks that we are idiot by saying that the organisers did not know that somebody was going to bring the cow head......

Mr. Big mouth, open your big eye and see who was the one stepping on the cow head?
Does it imply that the organiser can step on the cow head even though they claimed that they were not the one who brought the cow head?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytAkNMyGd1M

Keris Hishammuddin also claimed that some one has thrown a pig head that covered with Umno flag in front of the Umno Building......Do you think that Umno especially Utusan Malaysia will not cook up the issue if it really happened?

Come on......Mr. Big Mouth, you can fool some people sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time....

Hisham defends cow-head protestors

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 2 – The Home Minister today defended and justified last Friday's cow-head demonstration after meeting with Malay-Muslim representatives of Shah Alam's Section 23 at his office here today.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein pointed out that the residents felt victimized and had no intention to stir racial emotion.

“They are not getting off scot-free. They felt victimised and feel that there is another valid explanation on their part. There was no intention on their part to cause racial divide. They, the organisers, who are sitting left and right of me, didn’t even know that somebody was going to bring the head of the cow during that demonstration.” he said.

He added that the residents only wanted their voices to be heard but it was unfortunate that “the publicity they received was negative because it was linked with racial and religious sentiments.”

A group, claiming to be Muslim residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam, the new site of a Hindu temple, held a demonstration outside the Selangor state secretariat last Friday, dragging a severed cow-head, an animal sacred in Hinduism, which they stomped on and spat at under the gaze of the riot police.

The act was carried out by a group of 50 protestors who oppose the relocation of the Sri Mahamariamman Temple to Section 23 from Section 19, claiming the area is mainly occupied by Malay-Muslims.

The 150-year-old temple was built on a plantation which over the years was developed into housing estates by the Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS). No provisions were made to relocate the temple, which is now in the middle of a Muslim majority area.

Hishammuddin told reporters that the police allowed the demonstrators to proceed because the numbers of protestors were small.

“They said that they were very conscious and all that they wanted to do was to voice their unhappiness about the willingness of the state government to listen to their requests. I was told that even the Hindus there are not so passionate that it is built there (section 23),” he said.

Hishammuddin refuted claims that the protest was organised by Umno and said that the location allocated by the state government is not suitable because Section 23 is predominantly Malay.

However, a check last week showed the neighbourhood was multi-racial, with Indians making up more than a quarter of those who live there.

“If I wanted to use the issue to create chaos in Selangor, I can but we didn’t take such actions,” Hishammuddin said.

He tried to play down the cow-head incident by pointing out that there were previous incidents where a pig-head was used.

“I have it in my records to show there were cases where a pig-head was used by irresponsible parties including leaving the head in front of an Umno building covered by an Umno flag,” he said, but offered no details of such an act.

The Umno vice-president warned irresponsible parties not to provoke racial sentiments because it goes against the concept of 1 Malaysia.

Hishammuddin told reporters that the residents had met with Hindu Sangam two days ago and both parties will be releasing a media statement tomorrow.

“If it can be resolved quickly and can be done with both sides understanding each other ... why would we want to penalise anybody?” he said, suggesting he was not in favour of legal action to be taken against any of the protestors.
