KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid has been absent without leave (AWOL) from Hospital Pusrawi since last month.

Hospital Pusrawi general manager Wan Mahmud Wan Yaakob said the doctor had not reported back to work.

Dr Mohamed Osman, a Myanmar national, is believed to have gone back to his country after he was questioned by police in connection with the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sodomy case.

Wan Mahmud said he was aware of Dr Mohamed Osman's statutory declaration but refused to comment on it.

"Let's leave it to the police."
In a previous press conference, Wan Mahmud said Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had sought treatment for stomach ache and constipation.

Yesterday, at a press conference in Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Petaling Jaya headquarters, Anwar said police should investigate the doctor's statutory declaration.

"Anything short of a thorough investigation into the mishandling of this investigation would further tarnish the credibility of the police," said the PKR's de facto leader.

Anwar also said he feared Dr Mohamed Osman would disappear the same way another "glamour" witness vanished recently.

"Material witnesses in high-profile cases, such as private investigator P. Balasubramaniam, have gone missing,"

Balasubramniam, a private investigator, had also filed a statutory declaration dated July 1 which allegedly linked Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the murdered Mongolian woman, Altantuya Shaariibuu.

A day later, Balasubramaniam retracted the statutory declaration and has since disappeared.

Police said he was traced to a foreign country and they had recorded a statement from him regarding both statutory declarations.
